Every year since 2004, the 6th graders have participated in a "Kids Safe Boating" program sponsored by the Northern Neck Sail and Power Squadron.  This program involves 4 hands on learning stations where our sixth graders learn about PFD's, hypothermia, cleaning up our water areas, and learning how to use a boat radio.

As a culminating activity, the students design posters to submit to the United States Power Squadrons' Boarman Youth Poster Contest.  This is a national level contest open to all children ages 6-14.  The theme for this year's contest was "Make It Personal!  It's Your Life... It's Your Jacket!"  We had two national winners this year.  One 1st place winner for the 9-11 year old category was Mia Bundy who is in 7th grade.  Madison Garrity who is also in 7th grade, won 3rd place in the 12-14 year old category.

The United States Power Squadrons is the world's largest non-profit boating organization, stressing community service, continuing education, and social activities among members.
